Leiker in 2003 and 2004 in preparation for the community’s church centennial celebration in 2005. Dorman Lehman Collection

Overview The Dorman Lehman Collection contains materials relating to the Overland Trails with an emphasis on the Leavenworth and Pike’s Peak Express. The collection of maps, research notes, correspondence, articles, and surveys was given to the Smoky Hill Trail Association by Mr. Lehman at the annual conference in Russell, Kansas in October 2014.

Scope and Contents The collection is from Lawrence E. Osswald’s time in Hays, Kansas where he served as Corporal in the US Army 480th MPEG Company in a American Prisoner-of War camp for Germans POW’s. The camp was located on the grounds of the Agricultural Experiment Station [currently the KSU Agricultural Research Center] South of Hays. One Room Schoolhouse Collection

The last one-room schoolhouse teacher in Kansas, Selola Lewis, is included in this collection.
